Out of Area Registration

Patients may now register with any GP Practice outside the normal Practice area if they feel their services suits their needs. However, the practice has no obligation to provide home visits.

Out of area registration is voluntary for GP Practices, meaning patients may be declined if we feel we are unable to support the patient’s needs adequately.  Woodcote Medical will only register you without home visits if it is clinically appropriate and practical in your particular case.

To do this we will:

  • Ask you, or the practice you are currently registered with, questions about your health
  • Ask you to use our online, telephone and video services
  • Check that you are able to attend the practice if a face-to-face appointment is necessary.

If you have an urgent care need and the surgery cannot practically carry out a home visit, you may be required to call NHS 111 and they will put you in touch with a local service (this may be a face-to-face appointment with a local healthcare professional).

We could decide that it is not in your best interests or practical for you to be registered in this way.  In these circumstances we will advise you to register with a more local practice.

If accepted but your health needs change, we may review your registration and discuss with you whether it would be more appropriate for you to be registered with a GP Practice closer to your home.

This arrangement only applies to GP Practices and patients who live in England.

Temporary Services

If you are ill while away from home or if you are not registered with a Doctor but need to see one, you can receive emergency treatment from the local GP Practice for 14 days. After 14 days you will need to register as a temporary or permanent patient.

You can be registered as a temporary patient for up to three months. This will allow you to be on your local practice list and still remain a patient of your permanent GP. After three months, you will have to re-register as a temporary patient or permanently register with your local practice.

To register as a temporary patient simply contact us on 020 8763 5620. Practices do not have to accept you as a temporary patient although they do have an obligation to offer emergency treatment. You cannot register as a temporary patient at a Practice in the town or area where you are already registered.

Your Named GP

All patients registered with the surgery will have been allocated a named accountable GP who will be responsible for your overall care. However, you can book appointments with any of the GPs at the surgery. If you have a preference to which GP you are allocated, the practice will make reasonable efforts to accommodate your requests. If you wish to know which GP has been allocated to you, please ask reception at your next visit.
